Our Story
Gooramadda Olives is an agritourism business run by Melanie and Rob your local guides. Ask them about the people, places, produce, hidden gems and special events happening in the local area and region.
We grow and produce a large variety of the best olives and the best extra virgin olive oils in Australia. Our olive trees were well established when we arrived but over the last twelve years we have planted a large variety of plants which include roses (hundreds of them), hydrangeas, iris, orchids, protea and a small grove of citrus trees used for our jams and marmalades. There is always something in bloom at the grove.
We reside at the olive grove perched on a hill above the Murray River, a short distance from the Rutherglen, Victoria in the Rutherglen Wine Region. The confusion of resident Guinea Fowl wonder the grove organically chasing and catching grasshoppers and the like and are very comical to watch. Life doesn’t get much better than this and we’d like to invite you to share in our journey.
We moved from Sydney in 2013, knowing nothing about growing olives or agriculture. Melanie was a educator and continued to teach for another decade once we move to the grove, Rob worked in the corporate world negotiating large contracts. Rutherglen offered a chance to escape the city and live the country life. We settled at Gooramadda Olives as we fell in love with its panoramic view which visitors love as much as we do – the olive trees just came with the view. We thought "how hard can it be?"... Now we know, now we are olive farmers!
Life has certainly been full on since we became olive farmers.
